3. Terminology used in teaching phonics – phoneme, grapheme, syllable, consonant and vowels, digraphs, diphthong, etc.

 

4. Effective teaching of the 42 basic sounds – storylines, songs, tricky words and basic blending skills

 

5. Revision and short test

1. Revision of the 42 basic sounds – storylines and actions

 

2. Basic phonology knowledge revision

 

3. How to teach alternative spellings effectively

 

4. Enhancements, extension and enrichments for effective teaching – tricky word lists (Level 1-30), magic “e”, storylines and songs, fingering, colours and actions, classroom setting, etc.

 

5. Reading – introduction to Jolly Readers, levelled books, reading assessment tools (e.g. running record), how to determine the level of a book, etc.

 

6. Hands-on reading assessment

 

7. Magic Writing – elaboration on Magic Writing, application, examples, progress monitoring, helping emergent young writers, etc.

 

8. Teaching plans (for teachers only when needed)

Practical Workshop for Teachers and Parents

Jolly 3 is a review session for teachers who have been trained in Jolly 1 and 2 and applied Jolly Phonics in school for some time.
